Spotting SEO, Content & PR Gaps

Last updated: June 23, 2026

(Technical) SEO Gap - fundamental (AI accessibility, technical and structural)

The site is either:

  1. Blocking AI crawlers (WAF, or requesting AI crawlers not to scrape your site via robots.txt)

  2. The content is unreadable once the crawlers arrive

    1. JavaScript-rendered copy the crawler cannot load or your content takes too long to load → Spot with Page Audit

  3. Missing JSON-LD schema or semantich HTML (broken H1/H2 hierarchy) or paragraphs not chunked cleanly for RAG retrieval → Spot with Page Audit

  4. Your page is not indexed in Google or Bing.

    1. Bing often acts as a fallback mechanism for ChatGPT when Google requests become to expensive.

Content Gap - builds upon SEO (missing or not AI-citable).

  1. Either content on the topic does not exist on your site → View URLs in citations tab Four patterns worth watching:

    1. BLUF (answer buried under fluff)

    2. Justification reasons (no pros/cons, tables, or "best for X" claims),

    3. Freshness (not updated in 12+ months)

    4. Evidence (claims are qualitative, not data-backed).

PR Gap - builds upon SEO (authority and mentions).

AI engines weight third-party sources heavily. If the brand only appears on its own blog, it has a PR gap. Three sub-types:

  1. Entity gap (not on Wikidata, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, Google Knowledge Panel),

  2. Citation gap (competitors cited on G2, Forbes, Reddit, YouTube and you are not)

  3. Sentiment gap (negative threads dragging the score below 55% positive)

Three questions to ask yourself

  1. Can AI crawlers reach, parse, and chunk my pages? (SEO)

  2. Do I have content on this topic, and if yes, can AI engines extract a clean answer from it in 40–80 words? (Content)

  3. Are third-party sources citing my brand the way they cite competitors? (PR)

→ Any "no" is a gap.
