Connecting Looker Studio

Last updated: April 2, 2026

This article walks you through connecting your Rankscale data to Google Looker Studio so you can build custom reports and dashboards.

Before You Start

  1. The Looker Studio integration is available on Pro, Agency Growth, and Enterprise plans.

  2. You need a Google account with access to Google Looker Studio.

How the Integration Works

Rankscale provides two separate connectors for Looker Studio, each designed for a different type of reporting:

Search Term Execution Records - Granular, per-query data including individual search terms, AI engine results, topics, and brand mentions per query. Use this connector when you need detailed breakdowns by search term, engine, or topic.

Dashboard Metrics - Aggregated brand performance data including overall visibility score, sentiment score, mention count, citation count, and competitor data. Use this connector when you need high-level scorecards, trend lines, or executive summaries. This connector also supports a data type parameter that lets you switch between "overall brand metrics" and "topic/engine breakdown" views.

Tip: You can use both connectors in the same Looker Studio report. Combine Dashboard Metrics for overview charts with Search Term Execution Records for detailed drill-down tables.

Setting Up the Connection

  1. In Rankscale, go to Settings > Integrations.

  2. Generate your Looker Studio API key. Copy it and keep it available for the next steps.

  3. On the same page, locate the Example Report section. You will see two template reports: one for Search Term Execution Records and one for Dashboard Metrics.

  4. Click View Template on the report you want to use. This opens a pre-built Looker Studio report.

  5. In Looker Studio, click Make a copy (or use the three-dot menu) to duplicate the template into your own Google account.

  6. When prompted to reconnect the data source, add the Rankscale connector using the Connector ID shown on the Rankscale integrations page.

  7. Authenticate with your Rankscale API key when prompted.

Your Rankscale data should now appear in the report.

Note: Each connector has its own Connector ID. Make sure you use the correct ID for the data source you want: one for Search Term Execution Records, one for Dashboard Metrics.

Adding a Connector Manually

If you prefer to create a report from scratch instead of using a template:

  1. In Google Looker Studio, click Create > Data source.

  2. Select Build your own under Partner Connectors.

  3. Paste the Connector ID from your Rankscale integrations page.

  4. Authenticate with your Rankscale API key.

  5. Configure the connector parameters, including your Brand ID (found in Rankscale under Settings > Integrations).

You can now add charts, tables, and filters using your Rankscale data.

Customizing Your Report

Once you have a working report, you can tailor it to your needs:

  1. Duplicate the template report to create your own version.

  2. Add or remove charts and tables based on your reporting needs.

  3. Apply filters to focus on specific brands, topics, or time periods.

  4. Share your custom report with team members or stakeholders.

Tip: Use date range controls in your report for flexible time-based analysis. If you are reporting to clients, you can schedule automated email delivery of your Looker Studio reports directly from Google.
