Looker Studio FAQ

Last updated: April 2, 2026

If you are having trouble connecting Rankscale to Looker Studio or your report is not displaying data as expected, this article covers the most common issues and how to resolve them.

Possible Causes

Most Looker Studio issues fall into one of these categories:

  • The connector is blocked by Google or your organization's security settings

  • The data source was not reconnected after copying a template report

  • The Brand ID or connector parameters are incorrect

  • The date range does not match your tracking data

Frequently asked Questions

"This App Is Blocked" Error

When adding the Rankscale connector, Google may display a warning that the app is blocked. This happens because the Rankscale connector is a community connector that has not yet completed Google's full OAuth verification process. The connector is safe to use.

To proceed:

  1. On the blocked screen, click Advanced.

  2. Click Go to [app name] (unsafe).

  3. Continue with the authentication flow as normal.

If you are using a managed Google Workspace account (for example, a company Google account), your IT administrator may need to allow third-party apps. They can do this in Google Admin Console > Security > API Controls.

Note: Rankscale is working on completing Google's OAuth verification for the connector. Once verified, this warning will no longer appear.

Data Not Showing in Your Report

If your Looker Studio report is blank or charts show "No data," check the following:

1. Verify your Brand ID Your Brand ID must be entered exactly as it appears in Rankscale. Go to Settings > Integrations in Rankscale and confirm the Brand ID matches what is configured in your Looker Studio data source. Watch for extra spaces or missing characters.

2. Check the date range The date range in your Looker Studio report must cover a period when search term executions have actually run. If your first tracking run was this week, setting the date range to "last month" will return no data. Adjust the date range to include your most recent executions.

3. Reconnect the data source after copying a template When you copy a Looker Studio template report, the data source connection often does not carry over automatically. This is a Looker Studio limitation, not a Rankscale issue. After copying, open the data source settings and reconnect it to your Rankscale connector with the correct Brand ID and API key.

4. Check that you are using the correct connector Rankscale has two connectors: Dashboard Metrics and Search Term Execution Records. If your chart is configured to use fields from one connector but your data source is connected to the other, the chart will not display data. Verify which data source each chart is using.

Data Looks Different From the Rankscale Dashboard

Looker Studio uses standard aggregation methods (SUM, AVG, COUNT) while the Rankscale dashboard uses custom calculations. Small differences in totals or averages are normal and do not indicate an error.

Where do I find my Brand ID?

Go to Settings > Integrations in Rankscale. Your Brand ID is displayed on the Looker Studio integration page.

Do I need a separate API key for each brand?

No. Your Looker Studio API key works across all brands in your workspace. You specify which brand to pull data from using the Brand ID parameter in each data source.
