Understanding Tags

Last updated: June 11, 2026

Tags are flexible labels you can attach to your search terms to organize and filter them across multiple dimensions. Tags appear in the filters across your brand dashboard, so you can narrow your view to any combination of tags at any time.

Tags work alongside topics, not instead of them. While each search term belongs to one topic, you can attach any number of tags to the same term.

Adding Tags

You can add tags in two ways:

  • While setting up a search term: assign one or more tags as you create the term.

  • In bulk: use the Bulk Add function to apply tags to multiple search terms at once.

Tip: You can reassign or change tags on a search term at any time.

Filtering with Tags

There are two ways to filter by tags, each using different logic:

The Hierarchy filter (top-left of the dashboard) filters with AND logic. A search term must match all selected tags to appear, which narrows your view to terms that meet every condition.

The All Tags filter (top-right) filters with OR logic. A search term appears if it matches any of the selected tags, which broadens your view to terms that meet at least one condition.

Choosing the right filter depends on what you want: use the Hierarchy filter to pinpoint terms that share several attributes, and the All Tags filter to pull together everything related to a set of tags.

Tips for Using Tags

  • Use tags for attributes that cut across topics, such as region, funnel stage, priority, or campaign. This keeps topics clean for business areas while tags handle everything else.

  • Keep your tag names consistent. Reusing the same tag wording avoids near-duplicate labels that fragment your filtering.

  • Combine tags with topics for precise reporting. Filter to one topic, then layer tags on top to drill into a specific segment.
